German-speaking cinema markets are failing to thrive. Arguably the main reason for this is the weakness of the film production industry in Germany in particular. Film-makers have failed to take any advantage of Western Europe's largest linguistic market. Looking at trends in the cinema industry and key players within it, data tracking admissions, box office and screen numbers since 2000 in the report highlights the potential of these markets if only audiences lost since the start of the century could be won back.
